Correct care of firefighting suits

Maintaining a firefighting suit, also known as turnout gear or bunker gear, is crucial to ensure its longevity and effectiveness in protecting firefighters during operations. Most SUPER ARMOR® firefighting suits are compliant with EN469:2020, but EN469 does not establish specifc standards for proper firefighting suits mainteince. However, SUPER ARMOR® follows the guideline of NFPA 1851 and provides mainteince to extend the life of the suit and ensures it continues to meet safety standards.
Routine Inspection: Regularly inspect the firefighting suit before and after each wear. And make sure the suit is fully dry.

  • Visual Inspection: Conduct a thorough visual inspection, look for signs of damage, wear, or contamination, including cuts, tears, abrasions, burns, or chemical residues.

  • Hardware Inspection: Check all hardware components, such as buckles, straps, and zippers, for proper functionality. Ensure they are securely fastened and in good condition.

  • Reflective Trim: Examine the reflective trim for any signs of damage, peeling, or fading. Properly functioning reflective trim is crucial for visibility in low-light conditions.

  • Seams and Stitching: Inspect seams and stitching for loose threads, fraying, or separation. Pay special attention to high-stress areas where damage is more likely to occur.

A routine inspection is the first line of defense in identifying issues, If the suit fails any part of this inspection, an Advanced Inspection should be performed.

Advanced Inspection:

Conduct inspection twice a year or whenever routine inspections indicate that a problem may exist.
